Manufacturing Standards

Due to copyright laws, standards are available for purchase from the standard provider or may be checked out one user at a time from the website author. Contact via the Home page on this site for further information.

What do the standards reveal?

The manufacturing process is specific to a particular business. Variation between processes seeks to maximize profit while accomplishing the business' values; standardization occurs within and not between businesses. Standards therefore address the resulting product - in other words, what specifications it must meet and how to test for those specifications.

Who makes manufactured AAC standards?

ASTM - ASTM International, formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials, is an international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards.

EN - European Normal technical standards. These standards are consensus technical standards that are ratified for the European Union. Nomenclature for these standards refers to organizations (listed below) that the standard recognized (for example, BS EN ... is a BSI standard).

BSI - The British Standards Institution is the national standards body of the United Kingdom.

CSN - Czech technical standards.

DIN - German Institute of Standardization

OS - Austrian Standards Institute

SAI - Standards Australia International

SIS - Swedish Standards Institute

SPC - Standards Press of China, National Standards

UNE - Spain's standardization organization

Storage & Transport Standards

ASTM C1691-21 also contains standards for shipping and handling. Good practices recognized within the industry, while not standards, are listed below.

Storage

Store on a flat surface so that the weight of stacked AAC is evenly distriubted. Store on an even surface to minimize the chance of tipping. Elevate off the surface, for example,  using a pallet, to prevent water collection around the base AAC. Cover so that rain or other falling water doesn't fall on the blocks, but don't store in tightly-wrapped plastic vapor barrier for long periods in hot, humid areas (water can "sweat" under the plastic). Wet block will not degrade, but is heavier, and may shrink upon installation, causing cracks.

Transport

Vibration of AAC during transport should be minimized.
